Algonquin Fire Ban in Effect

7/10/2018

I've been expecting it for the last week, and it was finally announced - a total fire ban in APP, just in time for my next camping trip. The forecast is for hot hot hot, so sitting around a campfire wouldn't have been high on the agenda regardless, but...

It means no burgers for dinner on the first night
and
It means I can't use my twig stove
and
I'm taking my cousin and his son on this trip, and neither of them have ever done anything like this before. Taking them camping in the Algonquin interior and not having a campfire is just wrong on so many levels.

But of course there's nothing to do but respect the ban. The bush is tinder dry, and even a well managed and looked after campfire could spark a real problem. Time to find my Whisperlite - and then make sure it still works!

Hey, we camped beside you and your cousin and son at Crow Bay during the wicked storm earlier this week. Any videos posted yet of the storm? BTW, the 'mother-in-law' portage is cleared but still brutal! Nice and informative website.

Hey Christine,

Sorry for the late reply - I went straight from camping to a cottage and just got home (I know - life is rough).

I haven't even pulled the videos off my cameras! I probably won't get any videos up for that trip for quite some time yet. Gives me something to do when I can't go camping ;).
